FARMINGTON, Maine -- Lyndon State College shook off first-half struggles to score a 52-49 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action this afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers slipped to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the NAC with a trip to Maine Maritime Academy set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Hornets stand at 4-6 (3-2) and are slated to host Castleton State College Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) led Lyndon with 11 points with Dannika Dobrowski (Plainfield, Vt.) adding 10 points off the bench and Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) eight points and game-high 10 rebounds.

Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine) posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Beavers. Ranquist also made three steals. Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) also got into double-digit scoring with 10 points, while Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) contributed nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

After shooting 12.5 percent (4-32) in the opening half, the Hornets found themselves down 22-16 at intermission and 35-28 with 12:18 left to go in the contest. On 45.7 percent (16-35) from the floor in the second half, Lyndon rallied to tie the game at 42-42 on a Jasmin Amaral (Westport, Mass.) steal-and-layup with 5:03 left in the game.

The two teams exchanged the lead and tied the score three times by a turnaround jumper by Lawson put the Hornet up 51-49 with 18 seconds to play. After a miss for the Beavers, Lyndon's Danielle LaFont (Albany, Vt.) hit the front end of a 1-and-1, but could not converted the second to give UMF a chance with two seconds remaining, but Chelsea Watson (Eliot, Maine) hauled in the long inbound pass to seal the Hornets' 52-49 win.

Neither team finished well from the field with Lyndon shooting 29.9 percent (20-67) and UMF 27.7 percent (18-65), especially from 3-point range (UMF 19.0 percent, Lyndon 18.8 percent).

The two teams struggled through the opening 8:27 before the Beavers reeled off 13 straight points to take control of the scoreboard at 18-7 on a Marisa Kelley (Hermon, Maine) jumper with 7:04 left in the first. Norton and Bianca Stoutamyer (Madison, Maine) each drilled a three in the run. The Hornets whittled the lead down to 22-16 at intermission.
