UMHB women fall to UT-Dallas

Richardson, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not dig its way out of an early hole and the Cru fell to the University of Texas at Dallas 65-48 Saturday afternoon in Richardson. The UMHB women lost for the ninth straight time to fall to 1-11 overall and 0-8 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Comets improve to 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the ASC on the year with the victory.

U.T.-Dallas scored the game's first five points and opened with a 15-4 run to take control of the game. UMHB stormed back to cut the lead to four points at 21-17 with 4:38 remaining in the first half, but the Comets had the lead back in double figures at 33-23 at halftime. UTD opened the second half with a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach and the Cru could not close the gap to less than 13 points the rest of the way.

Brittany Zamora led UMHB with 17 points. Brandy Dittert had nine points off the bench and Jovana Miles added eight points and a team-high six rebounds. No other player scored more than four points for the Cru.

Katie Korioth topped four players in double figures for the Comets with 15 points and she added a team-best seven rebounds. Ashley George had 12 points, Lyndsey Smith scored 11 and Brittany Houston chipped in 10.

The Cru had just six field goals in the first half while shooting 25 percent. UMHB finished at 32 percent for the game and was out rebounded 39-33. The Comets shot 44 percent from the field in the win.

UMHB will now return to ASC West Division action with three games next week. The Cru will sandwich home games against Concordia Texas and Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday and Saturday around a road contest at Schreiner University Thursday night in Kerrville.
