Box Score: CLU 60, WC 52 - F

It was an ominous start for Cal Lutheran spotting Whittier the opening six points of Thursday's contest. Tanisha White knocked two of her first three 3-point attempts and as a team Whittier sank 3-of-6 from downtown to start the game. However the Poets would make only 1-of-18 from beyond the arc the rest of the way.

Cal Lutheran made 4-of-9 from deep in the opening half including three straight triples from Chelsey Hastigan. Her hot start helped the Regals keep pace with the Poets before a 10-0 scoring run to close out the first half put them up 30-24 at intermission.

Jazmyne Porter took over in the second half scoring 13 of her team-high 19 points. Leading by just one point with two minutes to go Porter scored six of the game's final nine points and knocked down 4-of-4 free throws in the final 30 seconds of regulation.

Whittier closed its second half deficit to a single point on five different occasions. A pair of Shana Moore baskets, and 3-pointers from Keeley Anderson and Hastigan preserved a lead Cal Lutheran maintained over the final 22 minutes of play.

This balanced scoring proved the difference as the Cal Lutheran bench outscored its counterpart 30-4. The CLU starting five scored 30 as well led by Hastigan's 12 points. Alex Coon led Whittier with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor in the loss.

Senior point guard Meaghan Goodenough dished out a season-high seven assists to go along with five points and four rebounds in the victory.

Cal Lutheran (7-4, 1-0 SCIAC) will host Pomona-Pitzer (2-10, 0-1 SCIAC) on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 5 p.m.
