YORK, PA. – The No. 4/6 William Paterson women's basketball team (11-0) earned a spot in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament final with a 64-49 first-round victory against Ursinus (4-5) Dec. 29.  The Pioneers will face host York, Pa., in the championship game Friday, Dec. 30, at 3:00 p.m.

Senior all-American forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) led all players with 23 points and 16 rebounds.  Sophomore guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) added five assists and five rebounds to her 13 tallies.

After a tightly-contested opening 12 minutes, WP seized control with a 9-1 burst (22-15, 5:01), and the Pioneers scored the final 10 points of the half to take a 34-21 lead into the locker room.  Ursinus attempted just two shots while committing three turnovers during the final three minutes of the opening period.

That advantage quickly ballooned to 29, 54-25 less than midway through the second half, before William Paterson's bench took over for most of the remainder of the contest.  WP out-rebounded the Bears, 62-39, including a 30-15 edge on the offensive glass that allowed the Pioneers to build a 28-7 advantage in second-chance points.  Sophomore forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) chipped in eight tallies and eight boards, and junior forward Tatiana Javis (Hillside, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) contributed 11 rebounds.

Diamond Lewis led Ursinus with 15 points, and Lindsay Teuber had six tallies and nine rebounds.
