Kohawks beat Ripon for first win

More news about: Coe

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Senior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) scored a game-high 17 points, as Coe beat Ripon 49-40 for its first win of the year.  With the win, Coe placed third at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational.

The Kohawks trailed 4-3 with 16:02 to play in the first half, but a 9-2 run over the next four minutes gave Coe a lead it would never give up.  A pair of free throws with 7:45 left in the half cut Coe's lead to one at 14-13.  The Kohawks had an answer once again with a 6-0 run to extend the lead.  Coe led Ripon 24-18 at the break.

Coe led 30-27 with 12:35 to play in the game, but again used a big run to extend its lead to double digits.  The 11-2 run by the Kohawks in just under three minutes put the game away.

On top of the 17 points from Waskow, Coe's bench outscored Ripon's 19-3.  Sophomore Hannah Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier), junior Lindsey Buckles (Davenport, Iowa/West) and junior Caitlin Kray (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) each added six points.  Seniors Kelsey Jipp (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) and Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) led Coe with six and five rebounds respectively.

The Kohawks will be off this week for Thanksgiving, but return to action Sunday, Nov. 26 at Wisconsin-Platteville.
