WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) nearly had a quadruple-double with 19 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and seven steals as the No. 4/6 William Paterson women's basketball team (9-0) rolled to a 90-40 victory against York (N.Y.) Dec. 12 at the Rec Center.

 

Borova was one of four Pioneers in double figures in scoring.  Senior all-American forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) posted 13 tallies and eight boards, sophomore forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) had 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals, and junior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) contributed 11 points.  Junior guard Kierra Walker (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) chipped in nine tallies and junior forward Tatiana Javis (Hillside, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) added eight points and six boards.

 

After a lethargic start, the Pioneers eventually opened up a 21-point lead (39-18, 2:32) and took a 42-22 advantage into the locker room.  William Paterson turned 23 Cardinal turnovers into 22 points during the first 20 minutes.

 

WP got things going early in the second period, using an 18-2 spurt to open up a 35-point margin with 13:54 to play (64-29).  The Pioneers' largest lead of the contest came at the 3:15 mark when Borova capped a 16-0 run with a jumper in the paint to make it an 89-37 score.

 

William Paterson out-rebounded York, 52-30, including a 26-10 edge on the offensive glass.  The Pioneers finished with a 33-17 advantage on turnovers, outscoring the Cardinals 36-8 off the miscues and 24-0 in transition. 

 

Junior Shadae Rice paced York with 19 points.  Sophomore Vania St. Louis had eight tallies and five rebounds, and senior Joanna Josama pulled down a team-best eight boards.

 

William Paterson will play at Mount Saint Mary Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:00 p.m.
