Turnovers, Poor Shooting Doom Lutes

PORTLAND - Pacific Lutheran shot just 34 percent from the field and turned the ball over 28 times in dropping a 70-52 non-conference women's basketball decision to Concordia on Saturday night.

The Lutes, now 3-4 this season, stayed with the Cavaliers, 4-7, throughout the opening 20 minutes, and in fact took a 22-16 lead on Mackenzie Bieker's jumper with 6:33 remaining in the opening half. PLU took advantage of strong offensive rebounding, scoring 10 second-chance points, but Concordia closed out the period with a 15-4 run to take a 31-26 lead at the intermission.

The Cavaliers took their first double-digit lead of the game a little more than five minutes into the second half and led by as many as 22 points before settling for the 18-point win.

Shelly Kilcup and Bieker both scored 12 points to lead the Lutes, who also got 10 points from Samantha Potter. Kilcup and Potter tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds each. The Lutes were 18-for-53 from the field and also struggled at the charity stripe, making just 11-for-20 for 55 percent.

PLU was out-scored by 13 points at the free throw line as Concordia made 24 of their 34 attempts. The hosts also shot the ball well from the field, making 45 percent on 21-for-47 accuracy. Megan Padilla led the Cavs with 17 points.
