NEWBERG, Ore. – Jami Roos scored 16 points and Hannah Munger posted a double-double that left her three points shy of 1,000 for her career as the George Fox University Bruins raced past the visiting Chapman University Panthers 81-47 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday evening here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

George Fox, ranked third in the nation in the NCAA Division III, improved to 8-0 on the season and completed a season sweep of Chapman; the Bruins also defeated the Panthers 74-57 in a neutral-site game in the Posada Royale Thanksgiving Classic in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Nov. 26.  Chapman had its own four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-4.

The Bruins led from start to finish, opening the game with a 7-0 run on a three-pointer by Arianna Mohsenian and layups Hayley Cusick and Keisha Gordon.  Kimi Takaoka put the Panthers on the board with two free throws three minutes into the game before the Bruins took their first double-digit lead of 12-2 on a jumper by Megan Arnoldy and a three by Dacia Heckendorf.

The Bruins used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 18 points at 28-10 with 9:27 left on a layup by Munger, her second basket of the streak.  The margin continued to grow until it reached 28 points at 40-12 following a pair of Gordon free throws with 4:52 left.  The Bruins led 46-20 at the half after beating the Panthers at their own high-pressure defensive game, forcing 16 Chapman turnovers while committing only five themselves.

Arnoldy scored to open the second half before the Panthers went on a 7-2 run, trimming the George Fox lead to 50-27 with 16:49 remaining after a layup by Nicole Moy.  After an exchange of two baskets apiece, the Bruins ripped off 12 unanswered points, including two threes by Roos and one by Gordon, to take an insurmountable 66-31 lead with 10:34 left.  The lead eventually climbed to 36 points at 73-37 on a free throw by McKenzie Wolfe with 6:18 to go in the game.

Roos hit 5-6 field goals, including 4-5 on threes, as the Bruins' top scorer for the second night in a row.  Munger's fifth double-double of the season included 12 points and 11 rebounds, along with five blocked shots; she now has 997 career points.  Mohsenian added 11 points with a trio of treys.  Gordon passed out six assists and had five steals as the Bruins picked up 18 steals on the Panthers' 24 turnovers.  The Bruins had 12 blocks in the game, one short of the school record.  Their field goal percentage was .510 (25-49) and they were .500 (9-18) from long range, along with a 43-26 advantage in rebounds.    

Emily McCoy led the Panthers with 11 points while Takaoka was limited to eight, 10 below her team-leading average.  Brandi Hood had six rebounds and three steals.  Takaoka and Anne Yoshimura handed out two assists each.  The Panthers shot .321 (17-53) from the field, and were only 1-7 on threes, but hit a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line.

NEXT: George Fox will take a week off for final exams, then return to action in the Hoop n Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawai'i, on Dec. 19-20.  The Bruins will play Spalding University from Louisville, Ky., on Monday and Worcester State College (Mass.) on Tuesday.  Both games are at 6:00 p.m. Pacific time (4:00 p.m. in Hawai'i) … Chapman returns home to host the University of Puget Sound on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
