Moravian Defeats Albright, 69-53, for 4th Straight Win Heading into Semester Break

The Moravian College women's basketball team defeated Albright College 69-53 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action for the team's fourth straigh win heading into the semester break. Freshman forward Alexis Wright led the way for the Greyhounds (5-4) with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Moravian started off the game hot as they went up 9-0 right out of the shoot. Junior guard Amanda Kreuder put up seven of the nine points during that run. The Lions would respond but with a lay-up from sophomore guard Laura Casey the Greyhounds went up 15-4 with just under 14 minutes remaining in the half.

Albright (3-6) would start chipping away at Moravian's lead with points from freshman guard Tara Sabotchik, freshman guard Amanda Tiritilli and freshman guard Jessica Venturelli as the Lions came within four points of the lead at 19-15 with 7:36 minutes left.

Senior guard Hilary Murray would hit a three with 4:36 remaining in the half to put the Hounds up 28-17. Sophomore guard Danielle Brogan would match Murray minutes later with a deep three of her own to put Moravian up by 12 points with 2:45 remaining in the half. With a layup from Kreuder and Wright would give the Greyhounds a 37-21 lead at halftime.

Kreuder led Moravian at the half with 11 points and five rebounds while sophomore guard Meghan Boyle led the Lions with six points and eight rebounds. The Greyhounds shot 40 percent from the field at halftime while Albright shot just 23.5 percent.

Moravian would keep the pressure on in the second half, not letting its lead drop into single digits the rest of the way. The Greyhounds would start a 7-0 run with points from Wright, Kreuder and Casey as they reached a 21 point lead at 50-29 with 14:07 to go in the half. After a layup from sophomore forward Laura Jordan, Moravian would take a 22 point lead at 54-32.

The Greyhounds would reach their largest lead of the game with 11:23 to go in the contest when Brogan hit a jumper to put Moravian up by 24 points. The Lions would try to battle back, but the Greyhounds proved too much to handle as they would win easily 69-53.

Kreuder would finish the game 13 points, five board and three assists while sophomore forward Erika Blair had ten points and two rebounds. Her sister, senior forward Alexandra Blair finished with four points, two boards and a blocked shot while Jordan had eight points and five rebounds. Murray tallied up six assists and five points while Brogan had five points too.

Leading the way for Albright was Tiritilli with 11 points and five boards while Boyle had nine points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Jenny Knoebel put up ten points while Sabotchik had eight points and five rebounds.

Moravian finished with 37 rebounds while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, and Albright brought down 46 boards while shooting 30.2 percent from the field.

The Greyhounds return to action on Monday, January 2nd, 2012 as they open the 11th Annual Starters Moravian Winter Classic. Moravian will take on Medgar Evers College at 1 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
