Brooklyn, NY- The Lady Cougars defeated the Yeshiva Maccabees in the Consolation game part of the 13th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament. The game took place on Sunday Dec. 4, 2011 and MEC won 76-50. MEC improved to 1-7 while the Maccabees fell to 1-3. 

MEC played very well. Everything worked today from making their shots, creating turnovers. The Lady Cougars led from the opening tip and never let go of the lead. They led by as much as 14pts. Both teams shot 31.8% from the field (14-44). What seperated the Lady Cougars was their 3pt shots and Free throws. MEC shot 33,3% (1-3) from behind the arc while Yeshiva shot 23.1% (3-13) from behind the arc. MEC shot 80% (8-10) from the free throw line while Yeshiva shot 50% (1-2) from the free throw line. MEC was led by Chantal Biscette and Yvanna Jack. Biscette scored 14pts and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jack scored 10pts and 7 rebounds. Yeshiva was led by Rebecca Yoshor and Haley David. Yoshor scored 12pts and David added 11pts.   

The second half was all MEC. They led by as much as 26pts and once again, didn't let go of the lead. MEC shot 42.1% from the field, 50% from behind the arc (1-2) and 40% from the free throw line. Yeshiva shot 18.4% from the field and 44.4% from the free throw line. MEC was led by Yvanna Jack and Chantal Biscette. Jack scored 18pts and grabbed 11 rebounds. Biscette scored 10pts. Yeshiva was led by Rebecca Yoshor and Haley David. Both tallied 6pts.

For the game, MEC was led by Yvanna Jack. Jack scored 28pts, grabbed 18 rebounds, and added 5 steals. Chantal Biscette scored 24pts, grabbed 16 rebounds, tallied 6 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Tiffany Woodbine scored 18pts, grabbed 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 8 steals. Yeshiva was led by Rebecca Yoshor who tallied 18pts and Haley David adding 17pts.


In the Championship Game, Berkeley College (NY) Knights defeated the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels 80-60 to win their 1st Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament Title. The Knights improved their record to 4-4 while the Blue Angels fell to 4-4.

Berkeley College shot better in 2 out of the 3 categories (FG and 3pt. shot). The Knights were led by Aiyesha Brown. Brown scored 23pts, grabbed 9 rebounds, tallied 5 assists, a block and 4 steals. Tournament MVP Taisha Sherman scored 19pts. CNR was led by Alyssa Pechin. Pechin scored a game high 27pts.

After the game, the All Tournament Team was announced. Tournament MVP was Taisha Sherman (Berkeley (NY), All Tourney Team- Aiyesha Brown (Berkeley NY), Alyssa Pechin (CNR), Rebecca Yoshor (Yeshiva), Chantal Biscette (MEC).
