More news about: Centenary (N.J.)

LANGHORNE, PA. (December 10, 2011) – The Cyclones women's basketball team bounced back from three straight losses by defeating the Philadelphia Biblical Crimson Eagles 90-57 today in Langhorne, Pa.

Centenary and Philadelphia Biblical played a close first half, with both teams having the lead multiple times. Neither team would take more than a five point lead until midway through the opening half when senior Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored on a layup to give the Cyclones a 25-19 lead. Ally would drive to the rim for a second straight layup pushing the lead to eight before the Crimson Eagles would mount a charge of their own.

Philadelphia Biblical, led by Danielle Bradley-Wilson put together an 11-0 run spanning three minutes which put the Crimson Eagles ahead 30-27 with just under six minutes remaining in the half.  The lead would be short-lived however, as junior Danielle Trucksess (Collingswood, N.J./Collingswood) converted two free throws to bring the Centenary deficit to just one before senior Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) scored to put the Cyclones in front once again. Vasta's basket was followed by two made buckets by sophomore Melissa Kukoda (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) and one by junior Kristen Cenicacelaya (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) to push the Cyclones lead to five, which Centenary would not relinquish.

The Cyclones came out of the halftime break with an 11 point run of their own behind the shooting of Vasta and freshman Andrea Innis (Secaucas, N.J./Secaucas)  who each had four points during the run. Centenary would continue to stretch the lead for the remainder of the game, eventually running the final seconds away with a 33 point win over their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent.

Centenary was led by Vasta who shot 8-10 from the field en route to 18 point seven rebound performance. Fellow senior, Hannah Ally pitched in with 14 points while each member of the Cyclones registered points. The Cyclones, coming off a tough game in terms of shooting vs. Ramapo College on Thursday, shot an excellent 50.7 percent vs. Philadelphia Biblical.

With the win, the Cyclones improve to 6-3 on the season and 2-2 in CSAC play. Centenary next travels to Dover, Delaware to face Wesley College on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 2 pm.
