Pilgrims pick up NAC win over UMF

HENNIKER, N.H. -- New England College notched a 58-40 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington this evening in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action.

The Beavers (2-6 overall, 1-2 NAC) are scheduled to visit Colby-Sawyer College Saturday at 3 p.m. The Pilgrims reeled off their school record ninth consecutive win to open the season and upped their record to 3-0 in the NAC.

Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) paced UMF with 12 points with Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine) chipping in eight points and nine rebounds.

Rachel Williams posted game-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds for NEC with Danika Johnson providing 12 points. Williams was joined by teammates Taylor Burgess and Kate Levy in double-digit rebounding with 10 boards apiece.

Norton drained a 3-pointer with 3:34 left in the first half as UMF knocked the NEC lead down to 18-14, but the Pilgrims went on a 10-0 run to take a 28-14 advantage on their way to a 28-18 lead at intermission.

Burgess scored six points as NEC ran off the first 10 points of the second half to bolster its lead to 38-18 with 15:41 remaining in the second half.

The Beavers got the lead down to 40-27 on a Mallory Bonnevie (Jay, Maine) basket with 12:23 left, but Stephanie Parker hit a three out of a timeout to give NEC a 43-27 advantage. The Pilgrims' lead never dwindled below 15 points the rest of the way as NEC took the 58-40 win.
