Eastern Flattens Ravens In Season Opener

More news about: Rosemont

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Rosemont College women's basketball team lost decisively in their opener against the Eastern University Eagles this evening, losing by a final score of 81-50. The non-conference game was the season-opener for both teams.

The Ravens gave away the ball more than twice as many times as Eastern (25-12) and shot only 31.3% from the field and 22.2% from the line to seal their fate.

The Eagles won the game leading wire-to-wire. Rosemont went into the locker room at the half trailing by their largest margin to that point, 35-23.

Eastern continued to put distance between themselves and the Ravens, extending their lead in the second half to 48-30 with 16:25 left. The Ravens scratched themselves back into contention as they went on an 8-0 run to get back to within 48-38. But that would be the closest that Rosemont would get to the Eagles for the remainder of the game as the home side pulled away to earn the victory.

First year Liz Coyne (West Chester, Pa.) was the only Raven to hit double-figures, scoring 20 points on 10-20 shooting from the field. First year guard Brittany Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored nine points, all from beyond the 3-point arc (3-4 from downtown). Junior Ashley Montecchio (Aston, Pa.) and first year April Buck (Darby, Pa.) led the Ravens with seven boards each.

The Ravens will return to action on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, 11/18 and 11/19 when they play Penn State - Abington and Arcadia University at Rutgers-Camden. The Friday night game against PSU-Abington is scheduled for an 8:00pm tip while the Saturday game is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.
