SUNY Cobleskill Sneaks By Lady AMCATS

COBLESKILL, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team used a strong first half effort to turn back a stubborn Anna Maria College squad at the Iorio Gymnasium on Tuesday evening by a 59-51 margin. With the non-league victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 3-4 overall on the season while the AMCATS drop to an identical 3-4 mark on the campaign.

The Fighting Tigers used a strong first half defensive effort forcing the visitors into 15 or their 26 turnovers during the stanza to take a 33-21 advantage into the break. Cobleskill then held on as the AMCATS cut the lead to 48-46 with only 3:13 remaining in regulation. However from that point the Orange & Black outscored Anna Maria by an 11-5 margin the rest of the way to secure the win.

The AMCATS were led by senior guard Samantha Ashton, Worcester, Mass., Burncoat High School, who had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists on the evening and by sophomore forward Kayla Cummings, Auburn, Maine, Edward Little High School, who tossed in 13 points to go with four rebounds.

Cobleskill's Albany connection of senior forward Chelcy Moore, Albany, N.Y., Albany High School, and junior point guard Alexis Hauser, Albany, N.Y., Albany High School, once again led the way to victory with Moore posting a double/double with game highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds and Hauser filling the stat column with 10 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and two steals on the evening. Junior forward Heidi Anderson, Canajoharie, N.Y., Canajoharie High School, was also a factor in the win with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals on the night.

Anna Maria College will next host Becker College on Thursday December 8 starting at 5:30 p.m. on Toys for Tots donation night.
