Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team fell to borough rival Polytechnic Institute of New York University on the road by a score of 51-49 earlier today. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 5-1 overall on the season and the Fighting Blue Jays improve to 4-3 overall on the year with the victory.

Brooklyn was led by senior forward Justine O'Callahan and freshman guard Ashley McCaughan, who both finished the game with eight points each. Junior center Tiffany Thompson grabbed a team leading nine rebounds, to go with six points and three blocks.

NYU-Poly's senior forward Margaux Pickell led all scorers with 19 points, to go along with a game-high 15 rebounds and six blocks. Catherine Thompson added 17 points, while Tabitha Larsen chipped in with 10 points.

The opening half featured a tight contest throughout, as neither team led by more than four points. The Bulldogs would eventually head into the locker room at the half-time break with a 27-24 advantage.

Brooklyn would begin to take control in the second half as an O'Callahan jumper gave the Bulldogs a 14-point lead, 44-30, with 11:44 remaining in the game. From there on out however, the BC offense would go cold, as the Fighting Blue Jays outscored the Bulldogs 21-5 the rest of the way to escape with the 51-49 win.

The game featured a defensive stalemate, as both teams combined for 43 turnovers (Brooklyn 21 – NYU-Poly – 22).

Brooklyn was held to 30.6% (22-72) shooting from the field, including 23.5% (4-17) from beyond the arc and just 9.1% (1-11) from the free throw line.

NYU-Poly also struggled from the field, shooting 32.7% (16-for-49) from the field, including going 0-8 from three. Free throws would be the key to the Fighting Blue Jays come-from-behind win, as the home team converted on 19-of-30 (63.3%) from the charity stripe.

Brooklyn held the rebounding edge 51-41.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, December 6th, as Brooklyn will be on the road again to take on another borough rival in St. Joseph's College – Brooklyn. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
