Kees Records First Career Double-Double to Lead Thomas More to a 71-29 Win Over Grove City

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior forward/center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record her first career double-double and lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 71-29 win over Grove City College today (Saturday, December 3, 2011) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC and with the loss, the Wolverines fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More raced out to an early 17-0 lead when Kees made a lay-up with 14:50 to play in the opening half.  Grove City answered with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 19-6 with 12:23 to play in the half when Hannah Jo Coneby made a jumper.  The Saint closed out the half on an 18-2 run to extend the lead to 37-8 at halftime when freshman forward Kelli Dixon (Walton, Ky./Walton-Verona) made a lay-up with 1:40 to play in the first half. 

The Saint controlled the second half as they led by as many as 44 points when sophomore guard Amanda Chucta (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) made a three-pointer with 1:14 to play in the game to give the Saints a 71-27 lead.  Grove City got a jumper with four-seconds to play in the game for the final score of 71-29.

Joining Kees in double-digit scoring was sophomore guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) with a game-high 13 points and Dixon with a career-high 12 points.  The Saints were led in assists by junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner), sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) and freshman guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) with four each.  Junior guard/forward Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) led the team in blocked shots with four.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday (December 7) when they host PAC rival Washington & Jefferson College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
