Bethel went on a 14-2 run midway through the second half to turn a one-point deficit into a 51-40 lead, and went on to defeat Macalester 60-52 at the Leonard Center. The Royals improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in the MIAC.
Kyanna Jones (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) just missed a double-double for the Scots, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. She had four of her team's 14 offensive boards.
Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) led the way inside, providing a team-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists. Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) had eight points, seven rebounds and a couple steals.
Shannon Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and Jessica Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) each dished out four assists.
Bethel led 22-10 in points off turnovers and received a big game from Taylor Sheley, who finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Kelly Swenson chipped in with 12 points.
The game was closely contested until Bethel's 14-2 second half rally.
