Holst Registers Double Double to Lead Women's Basketball Team to Win

Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville)poured in a double double to lead the Falcon women's basketball team to a 64-53 victory over Luther College during the second day of the Luther Tip-off Tournament.
 
Holst finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead a potent Falcon attack.
The Falcons scored early and often, building a 40-17 lead to go into halftime. The Falcons' largest lead was 25, which came with 14:28 to go in the game.
 
Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City) also had a solid performance. She ended the game with 11 points and nine rebounds. She also had three of UWRF's four blocks to lead the defensive charge.
 
Nikki Guhr (Muskego, WI, Muskego) chipped in 10 points to round out a balanced Falcon offense that saw 10 different players score at least two points. Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona) added eight points in the winning effort.
 
UWRF benefited greatly by forcing Luther turnovers. The Falcons scored 28 points off of turnovers, with 14 coming in each half. The Falcons were stout on protecting the ball, limiting Luther to a mere six points off of turnovers. As a team, the Falcons only had 13 turnovers, compared to Luther's 25.
 
The Falcons also managed a 15-3 advantage on second chance points, despite being even in total rebounds. Each team had 39 rebounds, but UWRF held a 16-7 advantage on offensive rebounds.
 
The Falcon bench also played a pivotal role in the team's victory.UWRF had 18 points off the bench. Luther's bench had zero. Emilee Branum (Brainerd, MN, Brainerd) had six points off the bench for UWRF.
 
The Falcons are now 3-0 to open the season. Luther falls to 1-1. With the win, the Falcons improved their all-time record against Luther to 4-5.
 
Up next for UWRF is the battle of the Falcons. UWRF will take on the Falcons of Concordia University of Wisconsin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Mequon, Wis.
 
The UWRF Falcons have won the only match up between the two schools.
