LANCASTER, Pa. Elizabethtown put the clamps on Lancaster Bible College's offense, holding the homestanding Chargers to 20 points or less in each half in non-conference women's basketball action Monday night. The result was a 55-33 Blue Jays win, and the fewest points allowed by a Yvonne Kauffman-coached team since December 2000.

It was apparent from the start that the Jays (3-1) had the athletes to wear down Lancaster Bible (0-2). The visitors scored nine of the first 11 points and increased the lead to 25-13 on Kendra Beittel's 3-pointer at the 9:49 mark.

A free throw by Sarah Heilenman brought LBC within 28-20, but the Chargers didn't score over the final 4:14 of the first half as the Blue Jays grabbed a 12-point halftime lead. Junior Katy Fogel was perfect in E-town's 32-point half, going 4-of-4 from the floor with three 3-pointers for 11 points.

Offensive output continued to be a thorn in the Chargers' side in the second half. They scored just four points in the first nine and a half minutes, while E-town took advantage with 11. Marissa Ferris' jumper in the paint put the Elizabethtown advantage at 43-24 with 9:39 to go and Taylor Alwine's basket a little over five minutes later expanded that lead to 52-27, the Jays' largest of the game.

The 33 points allowed by E-town on Monday marked the second straight year that the Blue Jays have held Lancaster Bible in the 30's. Last year E-town picked up an 80-34 win at Thompson Gymnasium. The Blue Jays last opponent to score less than 33 points was Albright on Dec. 2, 2000 in an 88-29 EC win.

Hempfield graduate Beittel led all scorers with 13 points on 5-of-15 shooting. Fogel followed up with 11, all in the first half. She also added a team-high four assists. Elizabethtown's bench was able to score 27 points, including six from Ferris and the first collegiate basket for Rachel Fuehrer on a 3-pointer with 25 seconds to go.

Lauren Heliger was the only Charger in double figures. She had 11 points.

Elizabethtown will open conference play Wednesday night at Arcadia. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The Commonwealth Conference home opener for E-town is this Saturday at 2 p.m. against Messiah.
