MILWAUKEE -- A 13-0 first-half run gave Wisconsin Lutheran College a 25-11 lead and the host Warriors cruised to an 81-51 victory over the visiting Alverno College Inferno tonight at the Recreation Complex.

The game appeared a bit sloppy as it included a combined 53 turnovers (Alverno 28, WLC 25) and 44 fouls (22 each) including each team being assessed a technical foul in the first half.

The inside game proved to be the difference in the game as the defending conference-champion Warriors (3-1, 2-0 Northern Athletics Conference) outrebounded the Inferno 37-23, held a 36-14 advantage on points in the paint and 6-0 on blocked shots.

Alverno (2-4, 0-2 NAC) sophomore guards Anna Boteva (La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Kristen Speerschneider (New Franken, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) led the team with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Wisconsin Lutheran's Katelyn Kuehl led all scorers with 18 points.

Boteva was 3-of-5 from the 3-point arc and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, where the Inferno shot 20-of-27 (74 percent), while the Warriors were just 19-of-30 (63 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Inferno continue on the road for their next game at Aurora University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
