Strong Second Half Leads Baruch Past Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell, 46-40, to Baruch in a non-conference game this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams were outscored 35-26 in the second half and dropped to 1-3 on the season, while the Bearcats improved to 3-1.

Tied 17-17 four minutes into the second half, Farmingdale State used a pair of free-throws from senior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) and a jumper by junior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 21-17. Baruch answered with a 7-0 run over the next 2:35 to go ahead 24-21.

The Bearcats extended their lead to 44-34 with 3:34 remaining. Neither team would score over the next 1:55 as Baruch held on for the 46-40 victory.

The Rams were led by Koch and senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) who each scored seven points, while senior forward Natasha Smalls (Harlem, N.Y.) had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Junior guard Kiara Johnson (Woodbridge, VA) led all scorers for the Bearcats as she tallied 14 points after shooting 5-for-9 from the field.

Farmingdale State next will travel to NYU-Poly for their Skyline Conference opener on Thursday, December 1st at 6:00 p.m.
