BOSTON—Sophomore guard Emily Giel (Burton/Burkshire) and junior guard Jordan Ickes (Wooster/Triway) scored a team-high nine points and seven points, respectively, but the Heidelberg University women's basketball team fell to No. 4 William Paterson (N.J.) University, 99-51, today in the championship game of the Emmanuel (Mass.) College Saints Invitational at the Jean Yawkey Center in Boston, Mass. Giel and Ickes were both named to the all-tournament team.

In addition to Giel and Ickes, 14 players scored for the Berg (1-0). Senior guard Jazmine Shaw (Columbus/Hamilton Township) added six points on three-of-five shooting. Ickes tallied a team-high four assists.

William Paterson opened the game on an 8-0 run, but Heidelberg answered with an 8-4 run of its own and pulled to within four points at 12-8 when sophomore forward Megan Miller (Tiffin/Columbian) made a three-pointer—her lone field goal of the game—at the 16:37 mark of the first half.

WP then went on a 20-11 run to take its largest lead of the half at 32-19 as Dana Jeter knocked down a jump shot at the 5:24 mark.

The Berg outscored WP, 13-8, over the remainder of the opening half and pulled to within eight points when sophomore forward Jessica Simpkins (Sunbury/Big Walnut) made a jumper with just five seconds on the clock and the Tri-Color entered halftime trailing, 40-32.

Heidelberg was plagued in the second half, shooting just four-of-23 from the field as WP held a double-digit lead for most of the remainder of the game.

Miller pulled down a team-high six rebounds and Simpkins and Shaw each tallied four caroms.

William Paterson was led by BriAnna Lucas, who scored a game-high 18 points on seven-of-10 shooting, tournament MVP April Smith with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Floriana Borova, who also scored 16 points.

Heidelberg next plays at Earlham (Ind.) College on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. in Richmond, Ind. Upon return to Tiffin, the team will have traveled nearly 1,300 miles in five days.
