Cortland Defeats RIT, 68-46, to Win Dickinson Tournament

CARLISLE, PA. – Senior Ally Biordi scored 16 points and recorded four steals and three assists as Cortland defeated RIT, 68-46, in the championship game of the Dickinson College Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament.

Senior Megan Maycumber added 14 points and six rebounds and senior Molly Byrne finished with 11 points and six rebounds for Cortland, which improved to 3-0.

Senior Brittany Cohen, the tournament Most Valuable Player, scored eight points, dished out a game-high seven assists and made three steals. Sophomore Megan Touhey, who joined Cohen on the all-tournament team, totaled six points, four assists and a team-high seven rebounds, while junior Katrina Davenport chipped in with five points and six rebounds.

Courtney Tennant led RIT (1-1) with 12 points and seven rebounds and Alex Kelley scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Tennant and Leslie Havens represented RIT on the all-tournament team, which also consisted of Rowan's Lauren Creel and Dickinson's Bridget Borgese in addition to Cohen and Touhey.

Biordi made 6-of-11 shots overall and 3-of-6 from three-point range. Maycumber made 7-of-14 shots.

Cortland led 25-22 at halftime, but opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 13-point lead. Byrne and Biordi each hit treys, Maycumber made two layups and Touhey hit a short jumper during that run. The Tigers closed the gap to nine on an Anne Wapshire three-pointer with 12:43 left but got no closer. The Red Dragons scored the next 10 points, capped by two Byrne free throws t the 9:15 mark, and led comfortably the rest of the game.

Cortland will play a non-league game at Medaille on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m.
