Cortland Advances to Dickinson Tourney Finals With Win vs. Rowan

CARLISLE, PA. – Senior Brittany Cohen scored 18 points and handed out four assists and senor Molly Byrne finished with 14 points and six rebounds as Cortland defeated Rowan, 58-47, in the opening round of the Dickinson College Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament.

The Red Dragons (2-0) will play RIT for the title Sunday at 4 p.m. The Tigers defeated the host Red Devils, 82-67, in Saturday's other first-round game.

Senior Ally Biordi scored 13 points and sophomore Megan Touhey amassed seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Red Dragons. Lauren Gregg led Rowan (1-1) with 21 points and nine rebounds and Lauren Creel had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Cortland scored 39 of its 58 points from behind the three-point arc against the Profs. The Red Dragons made 13-of-39 treys compared to just 6-of-24 two-pointers. Cohen hit 5-of-13 three-pointers, Byrne was 4-of-8 and Biordi made 3-of-8.

Cortland led 17-6 after Biordi sank a three-pointer with 12:26 left in the first half. Rowan held the Red Dragons scoreless for more than eight minutes, but was only able to score eight points itself during that stretch and trailed 17-14 with 4:35 remaining.

Touhey's three-pointer in the waning seconds of the half gave Cortland a 27-17 halftime lead. The Red Dragons opened the second half with a Byrne three-pointer, a Megan Maycumber jumper and a Biordi layup to take a 34-17 lead with 17:38 left.

Rowan started clawing back over the next 10 minutes and eventually trailed by only five at 42-37 after Gregg nailed a three-pointer with 7:43 left. Cortland answered with an 8-2 run, keyed by two Byrne three-pointers, to push ahead by 11 with 5:23 on the clock and the Profs got no closer than nine points from that point.
