GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA.  -- Gywnedd-Mercy fell to the hands of Delaware Valley, 66-62, in the 2011 GMC Tip-Off Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon. The Aggies' Emily Soper, the tournament MVP, led all scorers with 28 points.

Sophomore guard Jordan Dominic led the Griffins with 17 points, to earn all-tournament team honors, while hitting for four of the team's five three-pointers. Senior Brittany Neill and sophomore Taylour Alstoneach had 11 as the Griffins fall to 1-2 on the season.

The first half saw Gwynedd jump out to a lead of fifteen points capped by Cara McArdle's three-pointer with eight minutes to go in the half for a commanding 25-10 edge. DVC was able to cut it down to six before the teams went in to the lockerroom with GM leading, 36-30, at the half.

Gwynedd-Mercy shot 37% on the game (20-of-54) and 17-24 from the charity stripe, but were 0-for-6 from downtown in the second half. The Aggies shot 35% from the field (21-of-60) and 17-29 from the free-throw line.

In the second half, the Aggies were able to slow GM down and were able to turn a six-point halftime hole into a seven-point lead with nine minutes to go. The Griffins did not help themselves out in the game committing 32 turnovers which led to 28 Delaware Valley points. Neill' driving layup gave GM its last lead, 60-59, with 3:16 to go, but it would be the last field goal for the team the rest of the way.

However Emily Soper was just too much for the Griffins, scoring 18 of her 28 points in the second stanza and going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Her two hits from the stripe gave DVC the lead for good.

The Griffins outrebounded the Aggies, 44-34.  Alston had a team-high nine rebounds while Neill added seven. Soper pulled down eight rebounds.

The all-tournament team was highlighted by Dominic, Soper and Coll. Erin Boggan from Scranton and Julia Antonelli from Lycoming also were selected.
