CHICAGO -- Tournament MVP Taylor Simpson contributed 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists as the second-ranked University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated Macalester College 81-59 Saturday in the title game of the UChicago Tip-Off Tournament at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Game Summary

Macalester (1-1) gave the Maroons an early scare as it jumped out to a 20-9 lead at the 14:03 mark of the first half. Chicago closed out the period with a 13-4 run to take a 40-34 advantage at the break.

The Maroons (2-0) led 57-50 with 14:14 to go in the game before holdling the Scots scoreless for the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach.

Statistical Highlights

Meghan Herrick joined Simpson on the all-tournament team after finishing the night with 14 points and four assists.

With 15 points, Maggie Elyturned in her first double-digit performance as a Maroon.

Chicago outshot the Scots 49% to 35% from the field and shot 91% (19-of-21) from the foul line.

Holly Schiedermayer led all scorers with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds. She represented Macalester on the all-tournament team.

Chicago extended its regular season winning streak to 20 games and its Ratner Center winning streak to 13.
