The Carthage College women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 30th in the pre-season USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll and 48th in the "D3hoops.com" poll, opened play in the Wisconsin Lutheran College "Dunn's Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament" on Friday, Nov. 18 with a 71-45 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University (1-1) at the Recreation Complex Center in Milwaukee. Wisconsin Lutheran takes on Bethel University (Minn.) at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Saturday, Nov. 19 consolation and championship games will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Carthage led by 19 points at halftime, 34-15. The lead went to 24 points in the second half, 44-20 at 15:08, as the Prairie Wolves got no closer than 16 points. The Lady Reds cruised to a 26-point victory, 71-45. Carthage shot 54 percent (30-56), while Nebraska Wesleyan shot just 36 percent (20-55). The Lady Reds out-rebounded the Prairie Wolves by a 39-24 margin. Cailee Corcoran (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) topped Carthage with 12 points on six-of-11 shooting, along with eight rebounds, while Dani Ripkey (Sr., Deerfield, Ill.) added 11 points on five-of-10 field goals. Diana Jacklin (Sr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) had eight points and six boards. Nebraska Wesleyan's Shea Rasmussen led all scorers with 19 points.
