MILWAUKEE -- Six players for the Alverno College women's basketball team scored double figures to lead a balanced offensive attack in a 98-41 victory over the visiting the Mount Mary College Blue Angels in the season opener for both teams.

The host Inferno never trailed in the game as Alyssa Jensen (Cudahy, Wis.) opened up the scoring with a 3-pointer for three of her 15 points. The long ball would be one of seven for the Inferno, who opened up the 2011-12 campaign with 44-percent accuracy from the newly extended 3-point line.

Kayla Kennedy (Trempealeau, Wis./Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) scored a career-high 13 points and Hannah Galstad (Holmen, Wis.) added 11 for the Inferno starters, while rookie DeAndrea Jones (Milwaukee/King) and sophomore Anna Boteva (La Crosse, Wis./Central) came off the bench to score 12 and 10.

Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) also subbed in leading all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a 3-of-4 mark from beyond the arc.

Kontowski and Jensen led all with eight rebounds apiece, and Jones grabbed seven as the Inferno held the 53-38 advantage on the glass.

Kennedy and Kristen Speerschneider (New Franken, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) both set career-highs with seven assists each, as the team assisted on 24 of its 32 field goals.

Defensively, Jones added a game high four steals and Jensen a pair of steals and blocks.

The visiting Blue Angels (0-1), who shot under 30 percent and committed 25 turnovers, were led by Ashley Leverenz (17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Mary Holmberg (10 points, 4 rebounds).

The 98 points scored by Alverno is third most all-time, behind 100 in November of 2005 and 106 in February of 2001.

The Inferno get back to action this weekend at the Pointer Tip-Off Classic facing UW-Oshkosh on Friday and then host UW-Stevens Point, ranked No. 11 in the nation, on Saturday.
