Providence, R.I.-Junior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) scored a season-high 18 points and dished out a game-high seven assists, but fourth-seeded Rhode Island College saw its season come to an end in a 77-68 loss to top-seeded Western Connecticut in semifinal action of the 2011 Little East Conference Women's Basketball Tournament played at Feldman Arena.

The Anchorwomen (20-7) finish the season having equaled the 1997-98 edition's program record for the most wins in school history.

Senior center Melissa Teel  (Hamden, CT) grabbed her 1,000th career rebound as the hosts (22-3) advance to the Championship Game against second-seeded Eastern Connecticut tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.

Teel's memorable effort was her signature performance in a dominant season.  She set a new WestConn  single-game record of 38 points, pulled down 24 rebounds, one shy of her own mark of 25 set on February 8 against the Anchorwomen, and had eight blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Ashley O'Dell  (Lincoln, RI) had 16 points, followed by junior guard Stephanie Coro (North  Providence, RI) and classmate center Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) who each scored 12. Riley led the Anchorwomen on the boards with  12 rebounds to record a double-double.

Coro got Rhode Island College on the board in  the game's first minute, but the Colonials scored the next six points for a 6-2  four-point lead.

The Anchorwomen drew even at 6-6 with 15 minutes to play in the half, one of seven times the  score would be tied in the first half. RIC went to the intermission trailing by one, 30-29.  RIC took a one-point lead in the opening minutes of the second half,  but a three by senior guard Heather Lee  (Seymour, CT) gave WestConn a six-point lead four minutes into the final act.
