The Yellowjacket women's basketball team was on the road on Saturday, to close out their 2010-11 season at UW-Whitewater.  The Yellowjackets did not qualify for the WIAC post-season tournament, while the Warhawks were tuning up for the playoffs, locked in as the number-two seed.  And although the Yellowjackets were in the game and leading for much of the first ten minutes, the Warhawks would eventually pull away and cruise to an 87-64 win.

The Yellowjackets opened strong, stretching their lead to five points, at 9-4 in the first six minutes of play.  The scoring attack was balanced at this point, with four different players contributing baskets.  The Warhawks would eventually tie the game at 11-11, however, with just over 12 minutes to play, and that was the last time the score was tied.  Over the next six minutes the Warhawks would go on a 21-8 run and take a 32-19 edge.  The Warhawks would continue to pour on the offense, and build the bulge to 18, leading 49-31 at the break.

Hailey Hart (Osseo, Wis.) and Bri Davis (Hermantown, Minn.) paced the offense for the Yellowjackets, combining to score 17 of the 31 points in the first half.  But the real story of the first half was turnovers.  The Yellowjackets committed 17 in the first half and the Warhawks scored 21 points off of those turnovers.

In the second half the Warhawks had their lead bulge to as many as 34 points, going up 83-49 with 4:45 to play.  The Yellowjacktes would finish strong, going on a 15-4 run in the final five minutes of play.  A pair of seniors playing their final games paced the run, as Kelsey Thingvold (Crystal, Minn.) and Jesa Hall (Glenwood City, Wis.) combined for ten of the final 15 points.

Hart enjoyed another big game for the Yellowjackets, scoring a team-high 16 points in 27 minutes, shooting 5-15 from the field.  She also pulled down a team-high ten rebounds.  Davis added 14 points and Thingvold scored 12, as three Yellowjackets hit double figures.  Connie Urmanski (Edgar, Wis.) led the Yellowjackets with three assists.

Dana Thompson scored a game-high 23 points for the Warhawks, who finish the regular season with a 12-4 record and enter the post-season with a 20-5 overall mark.

The Yellowjackets close their season with an 8-17 overall record, including a 2-14 record in WIAC play.
