Devils Pull Even With Third Straight Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team used a strong first half to build a lead and held on for a 57-49 win over visiting Haverford on Tuesday afternoon.

 

The teams were even throughout the opening 10 minutes, playing to a 14-14 tie with 8:36 remaining. The Red Devils turned up the defense, posting a 17-0 run to pull in front 31-14 with 2:33 left in the half. The 'Fords answered to cut the margin to 31-18 at the break.

 

Sophomore Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) sandwiched a pair of baskets around an Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) jumper to stretch the lead to 19 early in the second half.

 

Haverford rallied from a 15-point deficit with a 10-1 run to pull within six at the 9:08 mark, 44-38. A pair of offensive rebounds and two put-backs from Sisco helped the Devils build the lead back to 53-40 with 3:52 remaining in the game.

 

A three-pointer from Nina Voith and a jumper from Dominique Meeks cut the margin to eight with 2:29 to play but the Devils would hold on to capture their third straight win, 57-49. Sisco added a lay-up, two rebounds, a blocked shot and went 3-for-4 from the line in the final 1:22 to help secure the win.

 

Sisco led all scorers with 22 points, recording a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds as well. Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) added 10 points, hitting 4-of-4 free throws and handing out a pair of assists.

 

Borgese made a number of key plays on the day, adding six points on 3-of-5 shooting. Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Annie O'Donnell (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) both made key contributions as well, combining for 10 points and four rebounds.

 

Voith led Haverford (5-7, 3-5) with 16 points while Meeks added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

 

The Red Devils pull even at 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Washington College on Thursday for a 6:00 tip-off in Chestertown, Maryland.
