(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team just never found its rhythm on Saturday, falling to visiting Washington College, 67-58.
The Shorewomen jumped out to an early lead, pulling in front 15-4 in the opening nine minutes. Washington held a double-digit lead for most of the half, stretching the advantage to as many as 13 in the final six minutes of the half. The Red Devils rallied, putting together a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to 27-23 at the break.
A Sally O'Donnell three-pointer capped a 10-2 run in the second half to give Washington a 39-28 lead with 14:08 on the clock. The teams traded baskets from that point until a 6-0 run pulled Dickinson with six, 58-52, with 2:29 remaining in the game.
The Devils continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 61-56 in the final minute. Washington would hold on, however, hitting 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute as well.
Five Washington (10-10, 8-7) players reached double-figures, led by Erin Fitzgerald with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) led the Devils with a game-high 16 points, five rebounds and four steals. Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) scored 14 points, hitting 6-of-8 free throws to go with three assists. Senior Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Red Devils slip to 8-12 overall and 6-10 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Muhlenberg College on Tuesday night for a 7:30 tip-off with the Mules.
