Dolphins Win Second Straight, Cruise Past St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Patchogue, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team cruised to a 75-57 Skyline Conference victory at St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led two Dolphins in double-figures with a career-high 21 points.

Mount Saint Vincent trailed by four points early on in the contest, but a three point play from Kluth at the 14:26 mark of the first half pushed the Dolphins in front for good. The Mount got its lead to double-figures at the 4:35 mark after an Andree DeLeon (Flushing, N.Y.) bucket and a Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) jumper in the final 10 seconds sent the Dolphins to a 43-26 halftime lead.

Mount Saint Vincent shot 46.2-percent from the floor in the first half and knocked down three of its five three-point attempts in the period. The Dolphins also forced 20 St. Joseph's-L.I. turnovers in the half and turned those into 26 points. Kluth led all scorers at the break with 11 points.

The Dolphins came out of halftime and scored the first five points of the second half to open a 22 point lead with 18:36 left in regulation. The Mount Saint Vincent lead would grow to as many as 33 points with just over 11 minutes left to play after another Kluth conversion.

For the game, Mount Saint Vincent shot a season best 43.6-percent from the field, with Kluth going 8-for-13 overall to lead the way. She also added three rebounds, three assists and seven steals to her career-high point total.

DeLeon finished the afternoon with 16 points after going 7-for-10 from the floor to go along with four rebounds and three assists. McNish grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for the Dolphins and Amy Delva (Nanuet, N.Y.) contributed six steals, seven rebounds and five points.

The Golden Eagles were paced on the day by Kathleen Lamb who posted team-highs with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Nicole Redding added 11 points for St. Joseph's-L.I. and Christina Cohen swiped six steals.

The Mount Saint Vincent defense forced 35 turnovers in the tilt and turned those in 40 points. Mount Saint Vincent also held a 45-41 edge on the backboards, including a 20-16 advantage on the offensive glass.

The win on Saturday is the second straight for Mount Saint Vincent and improves it to 8-15 overall on the season and to 6-11 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to make it three in a row on Tuesday, February 15 when they close out the league slate in a home game with Yeshiva. Tip-off with the Maccabees at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is slated for 8:00 p.m.
