Atlanta, Ga., February 11, 2011 – Senior Kathryn Berger became just the 12th player in school history to score 1,000-career points and did so in impressive fashion, pouring in a career-high 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds as the No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team defeated Emory University, 74-60, on Friday night in Atlanta, Ga.

Berger shot 11-of-23 from the field, hitting four three-pointers in the most dominating performance of her career. She now ranks 12th in school history with 1,008 points, eighth in career-rebounding with 645, eighth in blocked shots with 61, seventh in career three-point field goal percentage (.374) and fourth in free-throw percentage (.789).

This season, Berger is leading Washington University with 14.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She also has a team-high four double-doubles in 2010-11, including her 32-point, 10-rebound performance on Friday night. The Bears' last 30-point performance came when Zoë Unruh, another member of the 1,000-point club, scored 31 against Maryville University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 5, 2010.

With the win, Washington University (18-3, 9-1 University Athletic Association) remained one-game back of league-leading University of Chicago, who picked up a 66-56 win at No. 16 University of Rochester on Friday. Washington U. will face Rochester on Sunday, Feb. 13, in Rochester, N.Y., at 1:30 p.m. (ET).

Berger scored eight of her incredible 19 first half points during a 13-0 Washington University run midway through the first period. The Bears trailed 23-20 before junior Claire Schaeperkoetter tied the game with a three-pointer, and Washington University jumped ahead by three thanks to a long-range bucket from Berger.

Berger scored again 90 seconds later to put her team up by seven, 30-23, and concluded the decisive Washington U. run with another three-pointer, her third of the half, to lift the Red and Green to a 10-point lead.

Berger shot 8-of-14 in the first half and was 3-of-6 from three-point range. The Bears shot 52.8 percent (19-of-36) as a team in the opening period and were 5-of-10 from long distance, taking a 43-31 lead into the locker room. Washington U. was also dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Eagles by a 23-10 margin, including 10 offensive boards and 13 second-chance points.

Emory scored eight points off seven Washington University turnovers to start the second half, cutting the WUSTL lead down to four, 51-47, with just over 12:30 to play. Sophomore Kristin Anda drilled a 10-foot jumper to break the Bears out of their scoring slump and Berger drained her fourth-three of the game to make the score 56-47, totaling exactly 1,000-career points on the make.

Sophomore Annie Sayers converted a pair of free-throws with just over nine minutes remaining to push the Bears' lead back to double digits, 60-49, and the WUSTL advantage remained at least 10 points for the rest of the game.

Sayers finished the game with 12 points, eight of which came in the second half, while Anda and senior Alex Hoover escored eight-points apiece. Misha Jackson led Emory with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting and Danielle Landry added 12 to make it two Eagles in double figures.
