NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team defeated visiting Yeshiva University by a score of 97-21 on Thursday evening in the Kaplan Center. With the win, the Knights improved to 20-2 on the season and 16-0 in the Skyline Conference, while the Maccabees tumbled to 2-18 overall and 0-15 in the Skyline.
Junior Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.) scored six of the Knights first eleven points, as her team edged out to an 11-4 lead with five minutes elapsed in the half. From there, the Mount would heat up as juniors Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) and Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.) combined for 22 first-half points, staking the Knights to a 47-10 advantage at the half.
Mount sophomore Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) took over in the second half of play. Metzger totaled 13 points over the final twenty minutes, including a string of three consecutive baskets. In addition to her impressive scoring performance, Metzger dominated the glass as she grabbed 11 second half boards. Sophomore Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) added nine second-half points and she finished the night with 11 points.
With her impressive second half, Metzger finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds, both game-highs. Other Knights to finish in double figures included Horvers with 17 points, Garbie with 14 points, and sophomore Charnelle Saint-Laurent (Dix Hills, N.Y.) with 15 points.
Yeshiva senior Shir Fuchs added a team-high 11 points for the Maccabees.
The Knights look to continue their win streak with a non-conference match-up against Lehman College. The Mount will host Lehman on Sunday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m.
