#20 Mount Union runs past Marietta 70-47

ALLIANCE, Ohio — #20 University of Mount Union avenged an earlier season loss to Marietta College with a 70-47 Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball victory Wednesday (Feb. 9) night. [Box Score]

The first place Purple Raiders improved to 19-3 overall and 12-3 in league play. The Pioneers, losers of nine straight, fell to 7-15, 3-12 in the OAC and now face the tall task of needing to win out to secure a spot in the upcoming OAC Tournament.

Sophomore Kristeva Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) finished with a team-best and career-high 14 points. Sophomore Chelsea Doutt (Cambridge/Buckeye Trail) added 10 points, while freshman Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) had seven. Senior Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier) pulled down a team-high 11 boards and added three blocks in the loss.

The Pioneers struggled on the boards without injured sophomore Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) and were out rebound 48-37, including 20-8 on the offensive end. Marietta also turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 22 Mount Union points. The Purple Raiders also scored 40 of their points in the paint.

Mount Union's Amanda Rose led all scorers with 21 points and recorded a double-double by ripping down 13 rebounds. Kori Wiedt added 11 points, while Tierney Allen had nine.

The Purple Raiders made sure it wasn't a repeat of their last meeting by taking control early with an 18-8 run over the first 9:32 of the game. The Pioneers trimmed the deficit to five points, 21-16, with 6:02 remaining in the half, only for the home to team end the half with an 18-7 run of its own to take a 39-23 advantage into intermission.

Mount Union continued to pour it on in the second half, as its lead grew to as many as 29 points before time ran out on a 70-47 win.
