Pittsburgh, Pa., February 4, 2011 – A pair of 10-0 runs in the first half propelled the No. 7 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team to a 73-37 victory at Carnegie Mellon University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday night at Skibo Gymnasium in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Senior Hannah Cusworth tied a career-high with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while senior Alex Hoover also scored in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Kristin Anda added nine points and five rebounds for the Bears, who won their seventh-straight UAA contest.

The Bears held onto an 11-8 lead early in the first half, but a 10-0 run by the Bears got the advantage to double figures (21-8) with 9:13 to play. Anda scored the final six points of the run for Washington U., which limited Carnegie Mellon to 0-for-8 shooting with three turnovers in the 4:41 span.

Washington University stretched the lead to 34-12 with 5:41 to play after another 10-0 run. Cusworth had six of the 10 points in the run, and led the Bears with 10 first-half points on 5-of-6 shooting. The Bears shot 54.8 percent (17-31) in the first half, and turned 11 turnovers by CMU into 13 points. Anda chipped in with seven points and four boards.

The Bears limited Carnegie Mellon to two field goals in the first eight minutes of the second half, and doubled up (52-26) the Tartans on a lay-up by Anda with 12:26 to play.

Washington U. shot 48.4 percent (30-62) from the field in the victory, and connected on 66.7 percent (10-15) from the foul line. The Bears outrebounded Carnegie Mellon, 44-38, and had a 18-6 advantage in points off turnovers. Jacki Cortese (11 points) and Jacquie Shaw (10 points) each scored in double figures for Carnegie Mellon, which dropped to 2-17 overall, 0-8 in the UAA.

Washington University (16-3, 7-1 UAA) returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 6, at Case Western Reserve University. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. (ET) at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio.
