Baruch Remains Undefeated in CUNYAC, Defeat York (75-64)

Camille Voitotand Folashade Akinde(career-high 20 rebounds) each scored 18 points to lead the Baruch Bearcats to a 75-64 CUNYAC home victory over the Cardinals of York College on Friday night in the ARC Arena.

With the result, the Bearcats remain undefeated in the CUNYAC conference with a perfect 9-0 record and 16-4 overall mark on the regular season. The Cardinals drop to 4-3 in CUNYAC and 7-11 overall.

The Bearcats led from start to finish and began the second half by scoring the first 12 points to lead 47-28 with 16:13 remaining.

York battled back behind 12 second half points by Shadae Rice to get as close as 67-62 with 3:25 remaining, but Voitot helped close out the game with back-to-back three-pointers to seal the 75-64 victory.

Monique Salmon (10 assists, six rebounds) and Jessica Duleba (seven rebounds) rounded out the double-figure scorers for Baruch with 10 points each. Shamika Boycegrabbed a career-high 16 rebounds (10 in first half). Maria Turnerhad a solid game off the bench with five points and eight rebounds.

In addition to her super double-double (18 pts, 20 rbs), Folashade Akinde also recorded two steals and assists each.

Overall, Baruch easily won the rebounding battle (73-42), which included 35 total offensive rebounds. They also scored 27 points off 19 total York turnovers.

Rice led visiting York with 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 39 minutes of action. Elizabeth Padilla contributed 17 points in the loss.

Baruch will return to action on Sunday, January 30, with a rescheduled (snow) CUNYAC game against the Cougars of Medgar Evers College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
