Hopkins Rallies Past F&M

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Johns Hopkins used a pair of late scoring runs to knock off Franklin & Marshall, 57-49, in a Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball game Thursday night. The Blue Jays remain atop of the CC at 12-2, 15-3 overall while the Diplomats fell to 8-5 CC, 10-8 overall.

A pair of free throws from Allison Bauer, and a three by Beth Holt, put F&M ahead 5-0 early in the game. Hopkins quickly tied the game at 5-5 after KaraLea Follmer drained a three but the Diplomats answered with an 9-1 run to lead 14-6 with 9:06 left in the half. Alexa Barbush scored five points in the run while Megan Pauley and Holt added two each. The Blue Jays used an 8-2 run to lead 22-21 with 29 seconds left, before a Pauley steal led to Elizabeth Snyder's layup at the buzzer to put F&M ahead 23-22 at the break.

The first seven minutes of the second half featured five ties before the Jays took a 41-34 lead with 10:35 left in the game. Holt's three with 5:11 left got the Diplomats within three, 47-44, but they would never get closer. Hopkins closed the game with 10-3 scoring run to ice the contest.

Holt led F&M with 15 points with Megan Pauley adding nine.

Stephanie Fong led all scorers with 17 for the Jays while Fatu Conteh added 10. Hopkins held a 54-33 rebound advantage over F&M and were led by Lyndsay Burton's 16 boards and Alex Vassila's 12 rebounds.

The Diplomats travel to Haverford on Saturday for a Centennial Conference game at 1 p.m.
