MEQUON, Wis. - The Edgewood College and Concordia University Wisconsin women's basketball teams put on another of the see-saw affairs their rivalry has been known for. This time, Kendall Kearns' layup with 31 seconds to play gave the Falcons a 60-58 victory at the John Buuck Fieldhouse. The Eagles had two shots on their final possession, but neither found the mark.

Edgewood College (10-7, 8-3 NAC) controlled much of the first half, as Brittany Bylsma scored six points in the first three minutes of the game to help the Eagles to a quick 12-2 lead. Concordia University Wisconsin (13-5, 12-2 NAC) responded with a 14-4 run, capped by Melanie Kulibert's three-point basket to tie the game at 16. However, the Eagles got the last word of the first half courtesy of three-point shot. Danielle Dixon broke the tie with her only triple of the game. Shortly thereafter, senior Shae Beckwith lit up the scoreboard with three straight three-point baskets to give Edgewood College a 31-22 lead. Two Falcon hoops cut the margin to 31-26 at the break.

Northern Athletics Conference North Division leader Concordia University Wisconsin answered the halftime buzzer on fire. The Falcons scored 14 of the first 17 points of the half to take their largest lead of the game at 40-34. However, as quickly as the Falcons took the lead, the Eagles wrestled it back. Chelsey Watkins and Dixon started a 16-2 run with a pair of baskets and Beckwith ended it with a three-point play to give Edgewood College a 50-42 lead with 7:33 left to play.

The Falcons quickly rallied back and forced a 55-55 tie after Edgewood College's Alison Tobin made two free throws with 1:22 to play. On the next possession, Concordia Wisconsin's Tiffany Hendrickson was fouled on a three-point attempt. Hendrickson made all three free throws to give the Falcons a 58-55 lead, but Tobin took a pass from Beckwith and converted a basket and a free throw on the next possession to tie the game at 58 with 46 seconds left to play. Kearns scored what would be the game-winner on the next Falcon possession.

The Eagles set up their final possession and ended up with Tobin taking a shot with seven seconds remaining, but Concordia Wisconsin's Megan Bernardoni blocked the shot out of bounds. The Eagles inbounded, but could not find a shot and were charged with a shot clock violation with one second remaining. The Eagles received a reprieve, however, when the Falcons committed a turnover on the ensuing inbounds pass. Edgewood College inbounded to Bylsma for the potential game-tying shot, but her effort missed the mark.

Tobin led the Eagles with 18 points, thanks in large part to a 7-for-7 effort at the free throw line. Dixon tallied 14 points, while Beckwith scored 12 points, including her three three-point baskets. Beckwith also had team-highs with four assists and five steals. Bylsma finished with eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Kulibert led the way for the Falcons with 14 points and seven assists. Hendrickson, Kerns and Katie Luethe scored 11 points apiece.

The loss drops Edgewood College into third place in the NAC North Division, two and a half games behind the Falcons and one game behind Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Thursday to face Maranatha Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
