THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran never trailed and after taking a 10-point lead the Regals led by double figures the rest of the way en route to a 71-46 victory. Freshman Maya Sotelo knocked down six triples contributing a career-high 18 points in Saturday night's victory inside Gilbert Arena.

Box Score: CLU 71, ULV 46 – F

La Verne crept back to within 10 points knocking down free throws late in the opening half. CLU cast the final first half blow as Erica Whitley knocked down a 30-foot buzzer beating three pointer to seize the momentum and carry a 32-19 lead into halftime.

In the second half Cal Lutheran took advantage of open looks courtesy of the Leopards zone defensive strategy. Over the final 20 minutes the Regals knocked down 17-of-27 attempts from the field including 5-of-11 from three.

A lengthy 17-0 CLU scoring run in the second half put the hosts up by 30 points. Sotelo split her scoring output evenly by halves and knocked 3-of-5 downtown tries in the second half including a pair during that stretch.

Cal Lutheran held the La Verne scoring trio of Ashley Paul, Mayra Duenas and Amanda Copas to just 14 combined points, a cast that had averaged over the first four SCIAC contests.

The Leopards are winless (0-10) when giving up 71 points or more in games this season, with the Regals equaling that mark. However it was once again the smothering defense that translated into points on the offensive end and another sizeable margin of victory.

CLU extended its win streak to three games and has held SCIAC opponents this season to only 47.4 points per game. None of the past three opponents have put up more than 46 points.

Cal Lutheran (9-7, 3-2 SCIAC) will be on the road Thursday, Jan. 27 at Whittier (9-7, 3-2 SCIAC).
