Trinity Women's Basketball Beaten At No. 3-Ranked Amherst

Amherst, Mass. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams dropped an 81-45 decision against the Amherst College Lord Jeffs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this afternoon at leFrak Gymnasium.  Trinity drops to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC, while Amherst, ranked No. 3 in the nation, improves to 17-1 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Neither team scored for almost two, before Amherst went on an 8-0 run to start the game. Sophomore Marcia Voigt (Skillman, N.J.) opened the scoring with a three pointer, before Lem Atanga McCormick (Chicago, Ill.) scored five straight for Amherst.  Amherst's lead grew to 14-0 before Trinity got on the both with a pair of free throws by junior guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) free throws at the 14:21 mark. The Lord Jeffs extended their lead to 22-6 over the next four minutes on their way to a 41-24 advantage at the break.  Amherst did not let up in the second half, outscoring the Bantams, 40-21, after halftime.

Bantam senior tri-captain guard Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) was the only Bantam to score in double figures with a dozen points, while Atanga McCormick led all players with 16 points for the Lord Jeffs.  Royals had four assists and senior tri-captain forward Rebecca Cohn (San Francisco, Calif.) fought hard underneath to lead the visitors with six rebounds.
