Dolphins Fall At Home To Skyline Preseason Favorite Mount Saint Mary

Riverdale, N.Y. – After reeling off four straight wins, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team dropped its second straight contest after a 73-46 home loss to Mount Saint Mary on Friday night. Senior Kerry O'Connor (Bethpage, N.Y.) was the lone Dolphin to score in double-figures, posting a team-high 15 points.

Mount Saint Vincent opened the game on a 5-0 run but sustained three long scoring droughts before halftime, allowing Mount Saint Mary to extend its lead. After pulling front 9-5 on an Amy Delva (Nanuet, N.Y.) bucket the Dolphins went over two minutes without a point. In that stretch the Knights took a lead they would not give up the rest of the contest.

Later in the half, trailing by just one point the Dolphins went nearly five minutes without a point and had their deficit extended to seven and in the final eight minutes of the half, Mount Saint Vincent sustained a six minute drought that allowed the Knights to head into the locker room with a 36-20 advantage.

Mount Saint Vincent would not be able to get closer then 15 points in the second half after the visitors shot 42.4-percent from the floor and converted 20 points in the paint. Nine Mount Saint Mary players found the scoring column after halftime and a 11-4 edge on the offensive glass led to a 13-2 advantage in second chance points in the second stanza.

Overall on the night, Mount Saint Vincent shot 36.7-percent from the floor and shot at a 54.5-percent clip from behind the arc. O'Connor knocked down four of the Dolphins' six triples in the game and has now made seven in her last two contests. She also hauled in four rebounds on the night.

Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Andree DeLeon (Flushing, N.Y.) each scored eight points for Mount Saint Vincent and each also handed out four assists. Friday night's game marked the first time in nine contests that Kluth has not scored in double-figures.

Mount Saint Mary (14-2, 10-0 Skyline) had three players score in double-figures and the Knights also held a 46-29 advantage on the backboards. The Knights secured 19 offensive rebounds and overall held a 34-14 edge in points-in-the-paint and a 23-4 edge in second chance points.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 6-9 overall on the season and to 4-7 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will return to the court on Monday for a non-conference matchup at Vassar. Tip-off in Poughkeepsie is slated for 7:00 p.m.
