Comets Hand Lady Choctaws First Home Loss, 70-59

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped their first home game of the 2010-11 season with a 70-59 loss to the University of Texas at Dallas on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Both teams went on big runs in the first half as the Lady Choctaws scored 11 straight points to take a 16-8 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the period.  The Comets would answer with a 22-4 stint of their own to grab a 30-20 advantage late in the first half.

After trailing 31-27 at halftime, the Lady Choctaws would knot the game up at 37 with 16:41 remaining in the game.  The Comets scored seven consecutive points and would never look back on their way to the victory.  MC would get no closer than two points the rest of the way.

The Lady Choctaws were led by senior Jalessa Taylor with 14 points after scoring none in the first half.  The former Jackson Academy standout would only pull down one rebound on the night, however.  Junior Brigit Taylor paced MC with nine rebounds on the night.

Senior Randa Lee was hot from behind the three-point line, making all three of her attempts on the way to 13 points.  The ASC leader in assists per game tallied five helpers on the night.  Senior Jennifer Wair and sophomore Traci Rodgers each finished the night with 10 points.

Tawni Ichimura led the Comets with 24 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor and four three-pointers made.  Tarneisha Scott was the only other UTD player in double-figures with 10 points.  Scott collected a double-double with 10 rebounds.

MC will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they host Ozarks at 1:00 p.m. in the "Golden Dome."
