BEREA, OHIO – Senior All-OAC guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) tied a season-high with 25  points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 68-47, tonight (Wednesday, January 19, 2011) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium  to remain in first place in the OAC.  This was the first of five straight home games for the Yellow Jackets.

With its win, B-W is now 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the OAC and one game ahead of second place Ohio Northern University and the University of Mount Union.  Schroeder shot an impressive 58.3% (7-of-12) from the field, while she was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. For Muskingum, now 7-9 overall and 5-4 in the OAC, Hannah Oakley led the way with 16 points.

With her 25 points tonight, Schroeder remained in fourth place on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list with 1,237 career points.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the 19:23 mark when senior guard Schroeder scored on a jumper.  Following a Muskingum basket, freshman guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) made a lay-up sparking a 6-0 run by the Yellow Jackets.

Muskingum stopped the Jacket's run with a lay-up by junior forward Hannah Oakley to cut the lead to four.  Consecutive lay-ups by sophomore guard Megan Frisina (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) and sophomore guard Olivia French (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) put the Yellow Jackets up 12-4.  The Muskies followed with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead to two.

The Yellow Jackets answered right back when Schroeder hit a jumper at the 9:32 mark.  Schroeder went on an 8-0 run by herself as she scored in four straight possessions.  The Yellow Jackets took their largest lead of the game when French made a lay-up to make the score 22-10.

Muskingum junior forward Amanda Dobbins stopped the Yellow Jacket run with a jumper at the 6:56 mark.  Sophomore guard Jendy Weppler cut the lead back to nine when she hit one of her foul shots at the 5:27 mark.  After both teams exchanged baskets, Weppler canned a trey to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to five.  The Muskies finished the half with a 8-3 run to trail the Yellow Jackets 27-21 at the intermission. 

In the second half, Muskingum could not get any closer than the six point halftime deficit.  B-W increased its lead to a game-high 25 points at 7:13 as junior forward Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/St. Mary Central Catholic) hit a jumper to make the score 57-32.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when B-W hosts Marietta College in the Ursprung Gym in the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.  The B-W and Marietta men tipoff at 4:00 p.m. In addition, fans can listen to all of the action on either campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, or via the WBWC Internet web site at www.wbwc.com.

Two Yellow Jacket women's and men's basketball doubleheaders will be telecast on SportsTime Ohio this winter.
