F&M Knocks Off Bears; Moves Up In Standings

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall set the tone from the opening tip off with an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes, and rarely looked back, in a 71-55 win over Ursinus in a Centennial Conference (CC) game Monday night at the Mayser Center. The win evened the Diplomats (7-3 CC, 9-6 overall) with the Bears (7-3, 10-4) at the two spot in the conference standings.

Alexa Barbush scored the games first four points for F&M with Alison Menna and Allison Bauer netting a field goal each to give the Diplomats an 8-0 lead. Ursinus battled back to take its only lead of the game, 16-15, with 6:01 left in the half. F&M answered to close the half with a 13-5 scoring run and 28-21 lead.

Back-to-back layups from Menna to start the second half gave the Diplomats a 32-21 lead in the first 1:30 of the second half. Again, the Bears rallied to make it a three-point game, 51-48, with 6:06 left in the game. Kristina McCarthy converted a pair of free throws, and hit a layup, before Elizabeth Snyder's three gave F&M a 61-50 cushion with 2:23 left in the game.

Holt scored a team-high 17 points and dished out five assists. Holt went 4-of-9 from behind the arc and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. Barbush added 13 points and five steals for F&M while McCarthy and and Snyder scored nine points each. Megan Pauley grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Diplomats.

Lindsay Teuber led all scorers with 18 points for Ursinus and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Diplomats travel to Dickinson Wednesday in a Centennial Conference game at  6 p.m.
