Second Half Surge Propels Lady Mavs

More news about: Medaille

(Altoona, PA) – The Penn State-Altoona women's basketball team gave the 16th ranked Lady Mavericks all they could handle in the first half, however, the defending AMCC champs would prove to be too much for them, as Medaille used a huge second half to defeat Penn State-Altoona (81-54).

After twenty minutes of play, Medaille held a slim three point edge (37-34) as Penn State-Altoona shot an impressive (43%) from the floor, including (40%) from behind the three point line. The Lady Mavs didn't help their own cause in the first frame, shooting just under (40%) from the field and a forgettable (14.3%) from behind the arc.

However, the second half would prove to be a much different story for both sides. After letting the Lady Lions hang around in the first stanza, Medaille would play lock-down defense the final twenty minutes. Penn State-Altoona would make onlyeight field goals after halftime, shooting just (29.6%) from the field and missing on all (8) attempts from behind the arc.

The Lady Mavs would also turn up the offense, burying (6) three's and shooting an impressive (50%) from the floor. Freshman Bianca Smiley (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) once again led Medaille with (23) points and (11) boards, (8) of which came on the offensive end. Senior Kacie Mills (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) chipped in (17) points and (4) assists, and junior Meghan Dougherty (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) went 3-for-5 from three point land, adding (11) points.

The win is the Lady Mavs 11th straight and moves them to (13-1) overall as they remain undefeated in AMCC play at (8-0), they will hit the hardwood next on Monday as they will host D'Youville College at 3:00 pm.
