CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Jennifer Patten (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) scored a career-high 20 points to lead five Cortland players in double-figures as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Plattsburgh, 78-47, in a SUNYAC matchup. Patten made 8-of-9 field goals and also finished with team highs of six rebounds and two blocked shots in just 25 minutes of action.

Junior Micki Volpini (Newfield) recorded 19 points and five rebounds and was 13-of-13 from the foul line. Her free throw performance is the best perfect foul shooting performance in school history, and the 13 made free throws are one shy of the school single-game record set by both Jessica Laing (14-of-16 vs. Potsdam in 2008-09) and Kiki Seago (14-of-16 vs. Oswego in 1992-93). Volpini's best previous foul shooting game was an 11-of-11 effort versus New Paltz on Jan. 12, 2010.

In addition for Cortland (9-2, 4-1 SUNYAC), junior Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt) had 12 points and five steals, junior Molly Byrne (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) added 10 points, five assists and three steals and senior Jen Polan (Westhampton Beach) scored 10 points off the bench.

Freshman Kathleen Payne (Goshen) led Plattsburgh (4-7, 1-4) with 12 points and was second on the team with seven rebounds. Sophomore Lindsey Larivee (Enosburg, VT/Enosburg Falls) scored 10 points and senior Nora Campbell (Miller Place/St. Anthony's) totaled six points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Cortland held the Cardinals to 26 percent shooting from the field and never trailed. Patten scored five straight points to give Cortland a 22-12 lead with 9:20 left in the first half. The Cardinals were within seven at 25-18 on a Larivee layup with 4:40 left, but Cortland extended the lead to 35-22 at halftime and was at least 13 the entire second half.

Cortland will host Potsdam in a SUNYAC contest on Saturday, January 15, at 2 p.m.
