#18 Mount Union Runs Past Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The nationally-ranked Mount Union women's basketball team opened the game with eight straight points and never looked back in its 74-46 victory over Heidelberg in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) led the Purple Raiders with 12 points and five rebounds while Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) put in 10 points.

Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) and Erin Schmidt (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) contributed six and five boards, respectively.

Mount Union took its early 8-0 lead before Heidelberg's Kristen McConkey (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) put in a layup.

The Raiders then answered with 17 more points to take a 23-point lead. Kilgore had eight points and Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) put in all of her seven points during the visitors' 25-2 stretch.

At halftime, Mount Union led, 42-10. Its largest lead -- a 35-point gap -- came with 5:56 remaining when Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) hit a jumper to make the score 68-33.

Jenny Miller (Tiffin/Clyde) was Heidelberg's top performer with 11 points and seven rebounds. Kathleen Phillips (Sandusky/St. Mary's) also had 11 points for the Student Prince (1-14, 0-8), which struggled with a 9.1-percent performance from 3-point range (2 of 22)

The Purple Raiders (12-2, 6-2), who are rated 14th by ESPN/USA Today and 18th by D3Hoops.com, will be in action next on Monday when it visits non-conference opponent Grove City (Pa.). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
