Cal Lutheran Secures First Conference Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Leading from start to finish and by as many as 38 points the CLU women's hoops enjoyed a 72-42 road win over Pomona-Pitzer to pick up a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory on Saturday evening.

Four different Regals contributed to a game-opening 12-0 run as the team never trailed in the game. Chelsey Hastigan, Brianna Parker and Rachel Heagy each contributed six first half points as Cal Lutheran led 38-17 at the half.

The Sagehens were no exception to the tenacious scoring defense the Regals have been playing as of late, holding its first three conference opponents to 50.3 points per contest.

Pomona-Pitzer connected on only 10-of-43 field goal attempts (.233) and committed 23 turnovers, to which Cal Lutheran took advantage scoring 30 points off of Sagehens miscues.

Starla Wright led the Cal Lutheran scoring effort with 13 points in only 14 minutes. No Regal played more than 22 minutes against the Saghens.

Eleven different CLU players contributed to the scoring column with Maya Sotelo's nine points leading a 32-point effort by the bench. The Cal Lutheran non-starters outscored that of Pomona-Pitzer's by a 32-4 margin.

Emi Hashizume scored a game-high 19 points, including an 8-for-9 performance from the free throw line. She connected on 3-of-9 three pointers but only 4-of-18 from the field altogether. Hashizume played all 40 minutes and also led all players with four steals.

Cal Lutheran (7-7, 1-2 SCIAC) will remain on the road to face Caltech (0-14, 0-3 SCIAC) on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
